Classical Section

In this case I am using this term as a 'catch-all' for music which does not fit well in any of the other categories.

Ravel-Pavane for a dead princess

Maurice Ravel originally composed "Pavane Pour Une Infante Defunte" for piano but it was quickly transcribed for orchestra. My recorder orchestra transcription utilizes SnSAATBGbCb instrumentation.

Enjoy.

Respighi - Ancient Dances - Suite 1

Ancient Airs and Dances is a set of three orchestral suites by Italian composer Ottorino Respighi, freely transcribed from original pieces for lute. In addition to being a renowned composer and conductor, Respighi was also a notable musicologist. His interest in Italian music of the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries led him to compose works inspired by the music of these periods. (wikipedia)

Suite 1 contains four sections - 1. Balletto, 2. Gagliarda, 3. Villanella, and 4. Passo Mezzo e Mascherada. Originally composed for small orchestra Respighi transcribed Suite 1 for piano 2 or 4 hands.

It is the piano Transcription which has been used to arrange for recorder orchestra (SnSSAATTBBGbGbCbSgbScb).

This project has taken 5 weeks and is offered as a free download to recorder orchestra friends around the world.

Have Fun!

Respighi - Six Small Pieces

Ottorino Respighi is an Italian composer who is best remembert to three tone poems for orchestra. The 'Fountains of Rome' is perhaps the most performed. Respighi compositions fall in the the late romantic period which placed him at a disadvantage in the 1920's & 1930's when music was moving into the modern era.

'Six Small Pieces' was written for piano four hands. Each section carries a dedication for one of his students. They are arranged for SnSATBGbCb recorders and would make an interesting group in performance.
  1. Romance
  2. Sicilian Air
  3. Armenian Air
  4. Noel, Noel!
  5. Cantilena Schottische
  6. The Little Highlanders

Schubert - Allegro in A minor

Schubert composed this "Allegro in A minor" for piano 4 hands. My friend Allyson and I have been enjoying the rich harmonies and lovely melodic content in our Thursday playing sessions.  About a month ago I wondered if maybe this could be trasnscribed for Recorder Orchestra. To make everything balance I had to use SnSnSSAAAATTTTBBBGbGbCbSgbScb.

These pdf files are free. I hope that everyone has a great holiday season.

Enjoy.

Serenade by Franz Schubert has been used to charm listeners in almost every imaginable situation. Concert halls, Parlors, and churches are only a few. I believe I heard this in a cartoon sound track when I was in elementary school,  Now it is probably in the "Old Hat" section but I still love it.

So here it is scored for SSAAATTTBBGbGbCbSgbScg recorder Orchestra.

Enjoy

Spohr - Choral Fugue

Louis Spohr ( 5 April 1784 – 22 October 1859 )] was a German composer who was highly regarded during his lifetime. His music fell into obscurity following his death.

This nicely composed fugue was written for the organ which gave hope that it would work for SATB recorder ensemble. Give it a listen. There is lots of fun in this score.

Tschaikowsky - Humoresque

This famous piano composition by Tschaikowsky works very well for SSATTB recorders. The alto has a challenge in one area but otherwise very much at an intermediate level.
